NORTHUMBRIAN ADVENTURE

ITINERARY

Friday

A morning departure heading North with a stop in Carlisle for lunch (not included). You have time here to look around and explore; there are shops, restaurants and cafes, or why not see Carlisle Castle which is a great medieval fortress that has watched over the City of Carlisle for over nine centuries. We then continue our journey to Gosforth to settle into the Holiday Inn Gosforth Park before dinner this evening.

Saturday

After breakfast you have a full day excursion to Durham. Durham is a city in the North East of England, south of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The River Wear loops around the Romanesque Durham Cathedral and Norman Durham Castle. North of the castle the 13th-century medieval Crook Hall is home to gardens and a maze. South of the river Durham University offers a Botanic Garden with woodland and tropical plants, and the Oriental Museum exhibiting Asian, Egyptian and Middle Eastern artifacts. We return to the hotel in time for dinner.

Sunday

This morning after breakfast we join the coach to take the short journey to Alnwick, we have a short time here then re board the coach for the journey to Seahouses. From here, and weather permitting, we have our trip to the Farne Islands to see the Grey Seals. The boat trip lasts approximately 1 hour 30 mins, viewing the sea birds on the cliff faces and visiting the Grey Seal colonies. We also have some free time in Seahouses for some lunch, perhaps treat yourself to fish and chips. We return back to the hotel for dinner this evening.

Monday

After a leisurely breakfast we depart our hotel and head for home, stopping off in York to spend some time exploring the ancient city. Take a stroll down the Shambles, have a look round the shops, get some lunch in one of the many café’s and restaurants (not included) before leaving for the North West.
