Here is a quick breakdown of what we’re about at Tyrers Coaches.
In 1972, R S Tyrer & Son was established in Adlington by Bob Tyrer. Bob had been a coach driver for over 30 years before starting his own business at the age of 58, with one vehicle – for the curious, this was a Bedford vehicle, with a Leyland engine, on a Plaxton body. Over the years, his fleet expanded to five vehicles before he passed away in November 1992. His daughter Sylvia and husband Gordon carried on the business and now, with the help of their sons Richard and Matthew, have transformed the firm into the reliable, successful coaching business now known as Tyrers Coaches.
Tyrers now operate ninety vehicles from two sites. One of the sites is situated in Chorley and the other is in Farnworth. Sixty percent of our fleet is Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compatible, some have International Organisation for Standards (ISO) safety fixing points and others have a lower-level designated space for wheelchair access to ensure that we can meet the needs of every student who travels on any of our vehicles.
We have been working with many schools and further education organisations for more than forty years, building up a high-level reputation based upon reliability, integrity and trust. Our speciality is school transportation. Our fleet of school buses transport over 4000 students to school every day, with our main concern being the safety of all students.,
Each of our vehicles operating as school transportation has either three point or lap-type seat belts.
Tyrers currently operate school transportation for:
- Runshaw College (17 Vehicles)
- Westholme School (12 Vehicles)
- Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School (8 Vehicles)
- TFGM (26 Vehicles).
We use satellite tracking on all our fleet vehicles, using Masternaut – the market-leading tracking system. This enables us to monitor the location of all our vehicles and to determine what time it has completed the first pick up to the final drop off, ensuring it runs to the timetable and in the right direction. This is also supported by intensive route training when a new member of the team joins the company and when we are awarded new bus routes.
All of our vehicles are maintained on a daily basis above Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) standards and to a strict management policy that is audited on a regular basis. We have a 100% MOT first pass rate on all our fleet, whilst the industry standard is only 81%. This is something that we are really proud of, and highlights the dedication of our whole team.
All our vehicles contain the latest safety features and a state-of-the-art CCTV system. This ensures we can trace transport journeys, make improvements for training and insurance purposes, and that our vehicles are driven by a professionally trained team of drivers.
All our drivers are Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) screened and reference checked as part of our induction and training programmes and are supplied with an authorised driver badge issued by Lancashire County Council.
All drivers undergo some customer-relations training at the point of induction to ensure that our teams’ relations with you, and your team, are harmonious from start to finish. We understand your people, and their habits and concerns. This builds a good rapport between drivers and passengers, and ensures all your travel excursions are safe and fun packed.
We also have a 24-hour manned telephone, so you will always have a point of contact to deal with any queries or emergencies.
