£££££ £500 Welcome Bonus for qualified drivers who join #TeamTyrers! £££££
Equivalent Salary £24k-£28k per annum
If you have prior experience driving buses or coaches and hold a full current Category D entitlement & Driver CPC, you can apply to join the team on a full-time, part-time or casual contract. Plus, you'll receive a £500 Welcome Bonus to help you settle in to your new role!
Our Full Time positions are a guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week. Because the majority of our term-time work is scheduled around our school contracts, you will generally be working between the hours of 07:00-17:00/18:00 during the week for the most part, meaning that most of our full time drivers average around 50 hours per week during “normal” term time periods. There is an expectation that all full time drivers work evenings and weekends as required, but you will invariably get at least one day off at the weekend every week. Our full time positions offer the greatest variety in terms of the type of work carried out. On any given day you could find yourself driving school services; local private hires such as baths shuttles and educational trips, day trips; longer-distance private hires such as theme parks, zoos, corporate events; rail replacement or National Express duties and sports team/supporters transport to name just a few. This could be driving any one of the 100+ vehicles we have on fleet. We do carry out UK and European tours, but this is only a very small percentage of our portfolio.
Our Part Time positions are for work during term time only and cover home to school journeys morning and afternoon (split shifts). These contracts are between 20 and 30 hours per week depending on available duties. Where possible, you will be kept on the same school routes and the same vehicle throughout the school year. Salary is paid on a pro-rata basis across the year so that you are paid the same wage throughout the school holidays as you are during term time. For example, if your school is in for 280 days a year, your pay will be 280 days pay + 4 weeks holiday pay, and that total is then divided by 52 (weeks of the year) to calculate your weekly salary.
Casual positions are exactly what they say on the tin. If you choose to work on a casual basis, you let us know when you are available and we schedule work to suit. You must bear in mind, however, that during quieter periods priority will be given to Full-Time drivers and there may be no work available for you.

**Trainee PCV Driver Programme** (HIRING NOW!)
Want to become a driver with Tyrers Coaches but only have a car licence?
Our in-house Trainee PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle) Driver Programme enables you to obtain your full category D licence entitlement and Certificate of Professional Competence, while at the same time learning all aspects of the job you will be doing once you qualify.
The most obvious benefit of choosing this route over funding your own training is that you are paid a wage while you learn. None of that "Training Rate" nonsense here - you're paid a full driver's wage from day one.
Unlike commercial training providers, we don’t focus our efforts only on getting you through your tests – we don’t believe in teaching to test routes, so our Programme is individually tailored to real-life training environments to help prepare you for a career not as a bus or coach driver, but as a Tyrers Driver.
Tyrers Coaches specialise in schools transport. Our drivers work primarily with school children; driving school bus routes to high schools across Greater Manchester and Lancashire and carrying out private hire journeys for nursery, primary & secondary schools and colleges across the region. These can vary from short journeys to the local baths to long-distance residential trips throughout the UK and Europe.
Drivers may drive a variety of different vehicles from 19 seat midi coaches up to 102 seat tri-axle double-deckers. Our drivers also carry out a lot of work for a number of corporate clients and private groups carrying adults throughout the UK and Europe; including day trips, airport transfers, overnight stays, rail replacement work, local and inter-city scheduled services, sports fixtures such as football/rugby/hockey etc.
Successful applicants will start as Trainee PCV Drivers on an hourly rate of £12 per hour.
Training will cover approximately 40 hours a week and will take place between 07:00-16:00 Monday-Friday so it is important that you are available to work between these hours for the first 6-8 weeks of your employment with us. It is expected that most Trainees will be on the Program for approximately 8-12 weeks. Once signed off, Trainees will be offered a permanent contract as a fully-fledged PCV Driver.

**Frequently asked questions**
Q. I don't have a bus licence. Can I still apply to become a driver?
A. Absolutely! So long as you hold a full UK car licence, you can apply for a place on our earn-as-you-learn Trainee PCV Driver Programme and receive training from our in-house Instructors to obtain your bus licence and Driver CPC before joining the driving team. We aren't currently recruiting for Trainee Driver positions, but are holding applications from interested parties on file until recruitment reopens. For more details, please email hr@tyrerscoaches.co.uk
Q. What are the working hours like?
A. As we are primarily a school transport provider, all our drivers are expected to work on home-to-school duties in some capacity. For the most part, core hours will be Monday-Friday between the hours of approx 07:00 and 17:00, but full-time work will include early mornings, late nights and weekends when required and will vary in nature. Full-time contracts guarantee a minimum of 40 hours per week, but will average 50-55 hours during peak periods. Duty allocations for full-time drivers are confirmed on a Friday for the following week (Mon-Sun) and notified via an online Driver App diary. Part-time drivers work fixed hours covering morning and afternoon school runs on a split duty.
Q. I don't want to drive school buses. Can I join the team as a Tour Driver?
A. We do not offer "Tour Driver" positions to applicants. Due to the enormous variety of work we undertake, we don't normally ring-fence drivers to work exclusively on tour work or coach work. Teamwork is an integral part of our culture at Tyrers Coaches and we are committed to providing the same high level of customer service to all of our passengers and customers; whether this be a local circular bus service, a school shuttle to the swimming baths, or a 10 day tour to Italy. To this end, all our drivers are employed as "PCV Drivers" and may be required to drive any one of the vehicles on fleet for a variety of purposes on a given day. This also enables us to maintain a fair working environment where everyone has an equal opportunity to develop their skills and experiences.
Q. Is there more to the Driver role than just driving?
A. Of course! In fact, driving is just the start of it. As a Tyrers Coaches Driver, great customer service is the key ingredient. You will be dealing with people of all ages on a daily basis and as the face of the company, your biggest role is as a brand ambassador - showing the customer that they have made the right choice in choosing to travel with Tyrers Coaches. Most of our drivers are allocated a regular vehicle for the majority of their duties which, in effect, becomes "theirs. As part of the role, Drivers fuel, clean and park their own vehicles at the end of their duties, and very quickly garner a sense of ownership and pride in keeping their vehicle well-presented. Many of our drivers also choose to take on additional duties to support in areas such the Driver Academy (as Driver Mentors or Assessors for example), administrative duties, facilities management and more.
